Transfer News – Maria Reynolds

Shamrock Rovers F.C. confirm that defender Maria Reynolds has completed a permanent transfer to WSL 2 side Sheffield United.

Having played her schoolgirl football in Wicklow with Enniskerry FC and with Peamount United, Maria Reynolds joined Shamrock Rovers where she spent eight seasons at the club.

She came up through Rovers’ underage sides as the club put structures in place ahead of the Hoops senior women’s team re-joining the League of Ireland in 2023.

She played for Ireland at underage level across the 15s, 16s, 17s and 19s teams.

Having missed 14 months of action through injury, Maria made her senior debut in our 1-1 draw against Wexford Youths at Ferrycarrig Park in October 2023.

Reynolds played in midfield before slotting into central defence in recent seasons where she excelled. She trained with Ireland last year, having been drafted in by Ireland Head Coach Carla Ward to the training camp ahead of the UEFA Nations League play-off against Belgium last October.

In April, the 22-year-old was called up to the Ireland senior squad for the first time as part of the squad for the 2027 World Cup qualifier against Poland and she was an unused substitute in the away match in Gdansk.

A hugely popular figure at the football club, Maria is recognised as one of the finest footballers to come through the ranks at the club and departs with our utmost thanks and best wishes ahead of the move to the UK.
